Quart of Milk, Dozen Eggs, Loaf of Bread, Extra-large Bluebird
I couldn’t resist this one. I was sitting at the computer this morning and glanced out the window to see an Eastern bluebird perched right outside the glass. I grabbed the first piece of paper that came to hand.

Funny, I had the same exact experience today with a Western Bluebird — sitting at the computer and glanced out the window and he was perched on the dog’s water dish just a few feet from me pecking at the ice for water. I grabbed my camera — but he was off. Of course, with the other hand I was using the computer to Google a positive ID. I can’t imagine backyard birding before “Google images”! Now before you tell OK Birds that I saw a Western — remember I was in a little mountain village in Northern New Mexico. But back to OKC tomorrow and straight to the JRB as the internet shows that piece still available! Merry Christmas to me!
Snort. I find myself doing this all the time.
This morning it was a Lincoln’s sparrow outside. By the time I turned around with my pencil, though, it had vanished…
This is beautiful. I love the nervous and searching quality of the lines. I’m so glad the carcasses are finished. 🙂
Oh, the carcasses- I had to scratch my head there…not quite done with the goatsuckers yet, but I have a different carcass story to post, so stay tuned…
finding this website was an excellent christmas gift.keep it up! merry christmas!
I like this very much–the story, the sketch, the urgency of it. If a Western Bluebird came to my window I don’t think I’d be able to react so fast, certainly not sketch so well.
