Actually, I have finished two pieces since that mystifying last post but I’m not going to overload anyone, so that’ll have to be another post somewhere down the line.  Here’s the completed picture, titled Canopy Life. The accompanying label caption reads:

Bromeliad’s leaves are shaped to scoop and store rain, creating treetop tanks for frogs and other aquatic critters. Birds come from far and wide to bathe, drink and forage in the hearts of these hospitable epiphytes.  Amazon, January 2009

Birds in this painting: Purple honeycreeper, Paradise tanager, Swallow tanager, Green and gold tanager, Gould’s Jewelfront, Fork-tailed palm swift.

Detail- Swallow tanager takes off into the Amazon air. This painting is a mashup of field sketches made while swaying in Peruvian treetops.

Next: over the top macaws!
