I am so, so sorry. I know what it feels like to lose family (and pets are family). But looking at those dates, he had a very long run and you must have many wonderful memories! He’ll be missed.

  2. zeladoniac says:

He played right up to the last- on Friday, a beautiful spring day, Cody was out in the high grass running around as always, when he apparently suffered a stroke, and had a second one in the vet’s office. All we could do was let him go gently. He would have been 15 this summer, a good long run, indeed. He was a typical Golden who loved everyone unreservedly. Thanks so much for the kind words.

  3. Becky says:

He was a genuinely personable, loveable creature, a friend to all, and is one of those special animals that you hold in your memory for a very long time. I will miss him and remember him fondly and always with a smile.

I feel very sad for you. What a beautiful boy he was. I used to have a Golden myself. How I loved him. I am in tears right now. I am so sorry he is gone.

I’m so sorry to imagine what it’s like for you to lose him.

Happy dogs are a product of the caring they receive. What a good thing it is that you were able to give him such a happy and long life!

What a noble, wonderful, tell all photo of a most treasured animal. You only need to look at his adoring face to know what an entity he was to you. With a sorrowful nod of recognition, I feel the sadness of losing a huge member of your family.
Our dogs are reflections of ourselves too, and he clearly had a loving and long life. It’s never quite long enough, though when we have to say goodbye.

    His face says it all……..

I’m so sorry that your beloved friend has gone-I always grieve deeply at the passing of the ones who’ve brought such joy for so long. It’s an enormous loss-Jan

So sorry for your loss. He looks like a lovely soft chap. My best boy, Bisto, died aged 18. I got him when I was 23 so he was with me for my whole adult life until he went in 2005. I still miss him today…very few people understand how great a loss it is. I hope that you always treasure your memories of Cody…

  9. Melissa says:

I am personally grieving the loss of my beloved friend Michale. My Yorkie who passed the same day as your Cody 4/5/08. He died unexpectedly from a heart attack. He had a typical day with us having no indication that it would be his last. My Poodle Miles now has been left behind and is having a terrible time mourning the loss of his friend. Hopefully, Mike and Cody have met and are running in vibrant, green fields together. I know we will miss them.

I Lost my Akita a few years ago. She was 13, which was old for an Akita. I am still not completely over it. I don’t think I will ever have another dog. Sorry, I can’t say any more and I am so sorry for your loss.

Part 2: (So, it is after midnight. Let me try that again….

    He will NEVER be forgotten.

I have the video of him rolling happily in the snow where I can watch it whenever I get a little down. It makes me laugh every time.

    So sorry for your loss.

“You ask of my companions. Hills, sir, and the sundown, and a dog as large as myself that my father bought me. They are better than human beings, because they know but do not tell.” ~Emily Dickinson

We have a 10 year old goldie who is the center of our lives. She is so into me like no other dog I’ve had. You are so lucky to have such a good companion for so long, my thoughts are with you.

  14. bonnieluria says:

Sherrie- thank you for that lovely quote by Emily Dickinson.
Seems we all share this depth of feeling for dogs ( cats, birds ) but oh those dogs. They burrow in deep.

  15. julie Zickefoose says:

    Dear Debby,

I’m so, so sorry about Cody. But I’m reminded of a story my sister-in-law tells about her grandmother way down South who had kept a male cardinal in a cage for many years. There came a time when she needed to move into another place and leave her home. She packed up all her things, then went up to the cage and said, “Well, Mr. Redbird, what am I going to do with you?” And the cardinal fell off his perch and died in her hand.
I know that you were worried about Cody vis a vis this big change in your life and location. Maybe Cody knew that, too. Fifteen years is a great run, but I think one of the greatest injustices of life is that dogs aren’t granted a longer time here with us.
A big hug to you, a long one. Chet Baker is chewing his bone on Liam’s knee as we sit here on the couch. We’re all sending love to you.

So sorry to read this post of yours and know the loss you feel as we lost our golden also, but she was a youngster of only five years and died of cancer….I don’t think you ever “get over it”. So the best I can say to you is remember the happy times you had and cherish those days gone by.
