Today is the Autumn Equinox, a national holiday in Denmark. I was hoping it might explain the fireworks lighting up Copenhagen skies for the past three nights in a row, but who can be sure? No matter. I LOVE fireworks.
Tivoli Gardens is a venerable amusement park in the heart of the city and puts on a sensational fireworks show every Saturday night, starting at 11:45 pm sharp. The first booms always wake me up out of a sound sleep and I run like a little girl to the window to watch. 172 years is not truly old for a Danish amusement park. Bakken wins that contest hands-down. At 431 years of age, it bills itself as the World’s Oldest Amusement Park. Bakken is smack-dab in the middle of Jaegersborg Deer Park, right by the pretty bog in Skodsborg. Why would anyone combine an amusement park with a deer park? There must be a good historical reason. Or, it could be one of those nice Danish mysteries, like Sunday night fireworks.
Happy Equinox.
